On offer isan original watercolour design for a one-light stained glass window depicting The Annunciation [Archangel Gabriel appearing to the Virgin Mary], and dedicated to the memory of Ethel Helena Chipping, who died 11 th January 1951. The window made from this design is located in the Lady Chapel of Christ Church, Bootle, Lancashire, England [see /wp/?page_id=14 ]. This design is from the studio of the Liverpool stained glass artist Harcourt Medhurst Doyle (1913-2001). The design has been finished within a rectangle of stipple work that resembles a stone surface. Signed [to the base] and inscribed [to the top] with location. The artist’s obituary, by Penny Somerville and Alfred Fisher, was published in the Journal of Stained Glass, Vol XXV, pp 192-195 (2001). He attended the Liverpool College of Art and subsequently gained a scholarship to the Royal College of Art in London to study book illustration. He won the Annual Competition of the Worshipful Company of Glaziers three times and was a member of the British Society of Master Glass Painters. The image has been mounted in the mount/mat in such a way that the integrity of the original design is retained [see images which form part of the description]. The overall size of the watercolour image is ca 2.75 x 7.5 inches and the overall size of the mount/mat is ca 8.5 x 15.25 inches.
