Calling all passionate Majolica collectors: we are listing about 50 quality majolica pieces this week and next week. They have been consigned to us by a collector with a great eye for detail who is downsizing a marvelous collection. Please check our other listings this week and next week. Up for auction is a stamped Faiencerie d'Onnaing jug made in France of Pig with Ham Pitcher, Number 755. Pork accounts for a large part of the French diet in the northern areas, so pigsappeared frequently in French Majolica designs. This pig is quite whimsical and a must for Francophiles! It measures approximately 8 1/2 inches tall, 8 inches from spout to handle and is approximately 6 inches wide. The interior and the pig's body are shades of taupe and brown. His sash is a mottled merlot color and ties the small, mottled brown ham to his side. He wears a wreath of green laurel around his head which becomes the pitcher's handle. The piece is in very good condition. We see no chips, cracks, hairlines or signs of previous repair. T is crazing on the pitcher. T are some manufacturing glaze issues on the pitcher which add to the rustic and whimsical character of the piece. Please see the array of pictures to illustrate the beauty of this jug.
