This is a Stanley no. 5 1/2 jack plane. It is a Type 11, made between 1910 and 1918.It is in good condition, with no cracks, chips, or missing pieces. The cast iron body is in good condition, with about 75% of the original japanning remaining. It has the three patent dates cast into it behind the frog. The rosewood low front knob is in good shape. The rear handle is in good shape, with most of the original varnish. It may be a later replacement. The 2 1/4" wide iron and cap iron are in good shape, with about 1" remaining below the hole for the cap iron screw. It has the "V" shaped Stanley trademark. The iron is sharp and ready to use.The frog is in good shape. It has the smaller 1" diameter brass adjustment wheel. This plane is ready to use as-is. I personally find that the 5-1/2 size plane is a very useful size, and I use mine frequently in my woodworking shop. This plane would be a great addition to any collection,or a great addition to a professional or amateur woodworking shop.
