Up for auction is an early Stanley no.2 smooth plane. The iron is marked STANLEY PAT.AP'L19 92. It appears to be all original T are no markings on the body that I can see which measures 1-7/8" by 7" on the sole. T is a small depression with a almost invisible hairline crack at the corner of the mouth. It does not appear to go through. It is hard to see with the naked eye. I found it with a high power eyepiece. See photo. The lever cap has a B mark on the underside. The lateral adjustment lever is marked STANLEY and PAT 7-24-88. The sole has a few shallow scratches. The lever cap is in good shape with no defects. The iron measures 1-1/2" by 6-1/2" long. The rosewood tote is tight with no cracks, repairs or chips. T appears a light spot on the top rear edge of the tote. This I believe is a spot that was not stained at the factory. It shows grain in it like the rest of the wood. The front knob is good with no cracks, repairs or chips and measures just under 1-3/4" high.. T is light staining on the body, iron, frog and cap iron. The frog is good with no cracks, or dings and marked B on the underside. I would say the japanning is 75%+. T are a few small paint splatters on the plane. T are no owner markings. This is a nice early (I think type 8) no.2. It would make a good user. This was a recent estate find. Please ask any questions before read more
