You are bidding on one Stanley #55 combination wood plane as pictured. Included are the plane with the 4 main sections, a pair of long rods, the cam rest, three depth stops, the auxilliary center bottom or tower with the accessory shoe, 49 cutters, and 4 cutter boxes with no labels. It is marked with "STANLEY" in large scripted letters on the skate, followed by "RULE & LEVEL CO NEW BRITAIN, CONN USA" after that.Condition of the plane is very good to excellent. The foot of the forward depth stop on the main body is loose on the shaft (but won't come off), which I have never seen before, although it probably could be restaked. The spur on the center section, which is hidden by the depth stop, is missing.Condition of the cutters is fair to very good. Quite a few have some pitting, and I tried to show some of the worst pitting. It is on the face of the cutters, from being stored in damp boxes that fit very tightly, and doesn't seem to have affected the sharp edges very much. And much of the pitting is towards the upper or notched end of each cutter. In other words, those cutters with pitting won't look the best, but will work just fine. Those without any pitting are in very good condition. None appear to have been reground into other shapes, and most appear to have seen very little, if any, use. The queue is OVERFLOWING with tools right now, as they seem to be finding me faster than I can list them! I typically list in batches of similar tools, and sitting right now in the queue are MANY metal planes and parts for them, MANY American and British molding planes, chisels and gouges, bevels and squares, lots of books about tools, a few saws, and a variety of other tools. And if you, like me, are tired of the disappointments as a shopper -- misleading descriptions and poor photographs, "fine" tools that turned out to be repainted when you got them, non original parts that weren't mentioned, and poor packaging, -- then I encourage you to follow my auctions. I come from the handshake school of doing business, and hopefully you are like me and understand what that means. ETHICS IN DESCRIPTIONS: I also buy for my collecting on eBay, and I have been burned too many times by misleading (duh did I forget to mention .......) descriptions, and pictures only of the left side when the right side was trashed. Life is much simpler for me if I disclose what I know or see about an item before you bid, and especially before you receive it in the mail. If I have added or repalced a part, I will tell you. If I think the wedge on a molding plane is not original, I will tell you. If I think a japanned plane has been repainted, I will tell you. What goes around, comes around. RETURN POLICY: I believe that if you give honest descriptions, and include enough pictures, you shouldn't need a return policy. However, that doesn't mean that I won't make an occasional mistake. Please bid with the assurance that if I have made an error in my listing, I WILL take care of you. WASHINGTON STATE BIDDERS: I hate to do this, but if I ship to a Washington address, I either have to charge sales tax at the rate of 9.0%, or receive a valid resale form.PRIORITY MAIL FLAT RATE BOXES FOR HEAVY ITEMS: The Post Office has two sizes of the regular Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes (11-7/8 x 3-3/8 x 13-5/8 inches and 11 x 8-1/2 x 5-1/2 inches), plus a larger and more expensive Flat Rate Box, for which the postage stays the same regardless of weight.
