This is a Wonderful Stanley No. 1 Wood Smooth Plane This stellar Stanley No.1 Wood Plane is in excellent plus to near mint condition. The black jappaning on the plane body is 99%+ and the best I've owned out of 21 Stanley No.1 Planes I have personally owned. The stellar Rosewood Tote and front Knob have wonderful woodgrain and full finish, with only minute tool box nicks and a slight nick to the left top of the tote that don't show in the pictures. The metal plane body parts are wonderfully clean, with only a date stamp of "5.3.11" on the right side indicating it was probably originally purchase by the U. S. Army. From what I can tell, that is confirmed by the rare foundry stamp "32" on the underside of the lever cap that made tools for the military. The cutter and lever cap have typical light age staining. The plane bottom is shiny smooth for serious use, and the plane mouth opening is perfect as the pictures show. I am only keeping a mint Type 6 Stanley No. 1 Plane for my retirement collection, as this is the last of the other 20 Stanley No. 1's I am parting with. The No. 1 is a general purpose smooth plane great for final trim adjustments and it was small enough to fit in a work pants pocket for carpenters, cabinet makers, and other woodworkers. It is THE Stanley plane for any collection! Current book value range on a Stanley read more
