"Starve Him With Silence" WWII Anti-Espionage Poster by Seagram Distillers Corp. This is an authentic World War II poster from the American home front produced by Seagram Distillers Corp. and distributed to a local taverns in the early 1940's to promote thoughtfulness in regards to stopping war rumors. I believe that this specific poster was saved by my great aunt in the Chicago, Illinois area. The poster shows a rat with the facial features of Japan's Hirohito and a swastika on its side, as it nibbles on the side of a sack labelled "War Secrets". As the rat chews through the bag, the war secrets are symbolically being released. This extremely poignant poster became one of the iconic pieces of Anti-Nazi artwork on the home front. Above the image of the rat it reads, "Starve him with Silence". This poster was created by Henry Goff Jr. (better know as Essargee) and was distributed nationwide by the Seagram Distillers Corporation of New York, USA. The poster has not been stamped for use during WWII by the OCD Morale Committee, so I do not believe that the poster was ever actually posted in a tavern. There is a line at the bottom of the poster which reads, "This poster is published by the house of Seagram as part of its contribution to the national victory effort". The poster measures approximately 21.75" x 28".The poster is still in read more
