I am putting up for auction today this original Steam Users' plate "Steam Users' Assocoation Manchester" No. 2320 F M.S.U.A.Test 300lbs.Jp. 3 8 17 16cm x 6.5cm original, unceaned condition. Assume brass, though I have not given it a brasso to find out... a magnet does not stick to it. I am unsure if this is a steam loco item, or a non railway item i.e. a traction engine or such. maybe you know more..... very good condition all round, it has been stored in a box for many years It belonged to my grandfather who was a keen steam enthusiast. I use 2nd class ppostage wirh re- cycled packaging to help keep costs low, and always get a certificate of posting. Happy to post abroad. Thank you for having a look today. A knowledgable ebay gent has provided me with rhe following extra info for which I am most grateful: This does not appear to be related to steam traction but is seemingly a 300 psi test certification of a static boiler, as used to provide steam power for industrial use, such as weaving in the Lancashire cotton industry. It's clearly dated 3rd August 1917, so it's probably a late example, as electric power took over. I'm no expert but worked this out in about 5 minutes! Boilers had to be retested regularly, so these plates would have been pretty common in the age of steam, but I've no idea how many may have survived
