Here for sale is my Stentor 1950 3/4 double bass . It is only one year old and I'm the only owner, but it has been well used and gigged in the past 12 months.The Stentor 1950 double bass has a carved spruce top (the part that gives a bass its distinctive sound) and has very durable laminate back and sides (the parts that support the bass and being of laminate wood have much less chance of cracking, making this bass very durable and sturdy).The Stentor basses are made in China, BUT unlike most of the other Chinese instruments on ebay, are made well, from an actual company with a very good reputation. Most of the student instruments in the schools and colleges of the UK are indeed from Stentor and they have a reputation for being of good quality and durable, yet very affordable.This is a perfect bass for students, but also for those bass players that want to make the 'jump' into the wonderful world of double bass. This is what I did, and I never looked back, sold my electric bass and went 'full time' on double bass. I am selling this bass because I just bought a better one.There is a great video on YouTube, showing this exact model and I suggest you take a look at it. Here's the link /watch?v=4DFlTWfYF1ANow, a few details about this specific bass:If you were to buy this bass from new, it would cost you anywhere from £600-£800, depending on where you buy it (here in Scotland, I found nothing less than £700 - £800!), BUT:* It would come with such a high action that you'd have to be a body builder to get a note out of it!* It would come with terrible quality strings!* It would come with poor quality machine made bridge* It would come with an end pin so small that it would dig into your carpets!You would have to spend an additional £300 to make this bass playable, BUT I have already done this for you! I set up this bass, so that now:* It has a very playable fast action (at a price of £120 from a luthier)* It has a set of NEW D'Addario Helicore Pizzicato Light tension strings (at a price of £125)* It has a NEW good quality maple adjustable bridge (not shown in the photos) from Golihur music in the US (at a price of $70 + shipping), which allows you to play with a fast low action if you play jazz or funk, but to raise the action for those rockabilly slap or bluegrass gigs* It has a 'ball' end pin rubber (£20) that doesn't damage the floor and makes it a lot easier to handle whilst playing. Even if you find this bass new the lowest web price of £600, by the time you add all the modifications to make it playable, you would spend more than £900, so this is a good deal. I'm starting the listing at £500 as an absolute minimum, but it is worth more so please don't make cheeky offers.Although I have used it every single day for the past year, the bass is still in great condition. The only blemish I notice is that the paint at the side of the fingerboard has been rubbed off by my hand running up and down the neck (see photo 4). PLEASE NOTE : I will include both the factory bridge (which you see in the photos) and the adjustable bridge (which I just fitted on the bass).The Pickup is NOT included (that's the black cable around the bridge you can see in the photos) as I am using it on my new bass.Of course I will include the original padded bag , the original bow (never used) and rosin .Given the sheer size of the thing, it is collection only I'm afraid.
