This is a stereopticon holder ...I think. That's what it was labeled when I bought it, and I liked it, regardless of what it was. Now that I'm listing it, I am wondering what it is, exactly. Let me describe it for you, and perhaps you can tell me what it is! I like to learn, and I would welcome your comments. It has a silver-like patina on the bottom (base) and on the top (the holder), with a small amount of tarnish that is easily removed. The base and stem may be silver on brass, as the silver has worn away on the top of some of the three-dimensional designs of flowers and buds on the base. The top is entirely different: it is a different kind of metal, and looks as though it could be silver plated, but it has no markings. The top looks hand-engraved . You can see the tool markings if you look at it very closely. The design on one side is clearly meant to be the same as the design on the other side, but t are enough differences in placement to clearly show that it was done by hand. T are two small holes placed on the bottom of the holder, w it angles downward. I don't know what they are for. Condition: Very good , especially for its age. Some of the silver has rubbed off over the years, but only on top of some of the three-dimensional deigns on the base. T is one indentation about 1/3 of an inch long on the base.
