Up for sale are these 4 vintage Stereoscopic/Stereoview cardsI believe that these are actually considered to be Stereoscopic cardsThis process was done by taking 2 pictures of the same thing, from a slight different angle, as a stereoview card has the same picture on both sides. The most noticeable one is of the card marked 12 on the backside. If you will look at the men on the deck, by what I think is part of one of the smoke stacks, the men are in different positions in the 2 pictures. This is most noticeable of the men on the left side of the picture, but is also noticeable of the men on the right side of the stack. I think these cards date to the late 1850's (1856/1857), but I could be wrongAccording to Wikipedia/SS Great Eastern. The ship was christian the Leviathan, by the daughter of Henry Thomas Hope (The major fundraiser), but was later changed back to the Great Eastern, as that is what is she was commonly know as. The cards have light bumped cornersThere is some light soiling to themCards are flatThey measure about 6 3/4" x 3 5/16"Not sure who published these, but they original photos were taken by Robert Howlett & George DownersRobert Howlett was born July 3, 1831 & Died December 2 1858The best I can figure, George Downers was born in 1822 & Died 1879. (this might be wrong information)Howlett & Downers worked together read more
