This is a classic antique Victorian taxidermy grouse claw brooch topped with a sterling Connemara marble shamrock. One toe or talon sports a ring.Grouse claw brooches come from Scottish tradition. Scottish men would pin them on their kilts for good luck, particularly wearing them on hunting trips.Measurements: 3-1/8" long x 1-1/4" at the widest.Markings: the silver appears unmarked but it has been tested for purity and it is sterling.Condition: the back claw has a bit of moth damage, the back most talon is not as stable as the front ones and can be moved, the silver has been only lightly polished and shows some tarnish.10387
