This is a beautiful and unique antiqueset that is 113 years old! A fine example of 19th century craftsmanship. Sterling silver! Authentic silver marks distinguish where and when it was crafted. Engraving on the base of the chalice reads: "To the glory of God and in loving memory of Joseph J. Hayes. Easter 1908." At the top of the chalice is a beautiful engraved cross. This same style cross is engraved on the paten (plate) On the back of the paten is also engraved “Easter 1908.” At the bottom stem of the chalice (near the base) it has been lead soldered. A local licensed jeweler assures me this does not lessen the value or collectability of the piece at all (I watned to give full disclosure). There are a few scratches, but this piece is in very good condition. ...And it comes with the original locking wooden box (minus the key). Gold wash inside the chalice and on the innermost part of the paten. I included a picture of the silver marks. Apparently this came from a church in Louisville, Ky. Possible denomination: Methodist Episcopal Church South. Possibly made in the northeastern U.S. Sterling weight = 12.53 ounces. Feel free to ask any questions.
