Signed Steuben Very Large Pitcher designed by George Thompson 1950 Margaritas anyone--Retro at it's coolest!! Consider this vintage 1950's era signed Steuben classic barware Pitcher the perfect choice for your late Summer entertaining--Margaritas or Sangria punches, Martinis, refreshing Teas or Lemonades or iced sparkling waters. This is a heavy and large pitcher (just under 4lbs.) with the wonderful styling of glass master George Thompson (designer of the iconic Steuben Bouquet Vase with side prunts and the famous Teardrop Martini) evident throughout. This mid century vintage barware Pitcher is in excellent condition with no chips, no cracks, no water stains or internal cloudiness . When held up to the light on close inspection t are some light use scratches on the base bottom and body, but these are not pronounced. This has seen very light use and is in excellent condition. A piece you will be proud to display and feel comfortable using. This very large Pitcher measures just over 10" tall by approx. 5" in diameter at it's widest point. A very generous size, when filled to the brim this holds 2 quarts of liquid. The Pitcher is fully signed " steuben " on the edge of the base bottom. Steuben is noted for their rigorous attention to detail and for the high quality of their glass. They state in their literature that they do not market "seconds". In fact, they note that such pieces are destroyed in house. Steuben Glass was founded by Frederick Carder in 1903 and is located in the Fingerlakes Region of New York State. By following strict standards for design and manufacture they have achieved recognition as the worlds premier glassworks. Steuben Glass is frequently the gift of state by US Presidents to foreign dignitaries. Steuben is a luxury brand and they have no "sales". Because of these factors, a well maintained handmade Steuben collectible is likely to increase in value over time. A very fair starting bid for vintage Steuben barware in fine condition with no hidden reserve (when this Pitcher was available it was priced the same as the Lotus Vase and 25% higher than the Steuben Flower Vase which currently retails for $850--were this Pitcher made today it would likely retail above $1000 --(Steuben currently offers two styles of handled pitchers, these are both smaller than this George Thompson designed pitcher--they can be seen at by entering"pitcher" in the search box--they each retail for $900 before taxes). I ship promptly and pack with care double boxing fragiles. My goal is that you are satisfied with this auction, the item and the service you receive. I encourage you to ask questions. The art glass that I offer is handmade and as such may vary slightly from item to item. I appreciate your interest in this auction and I hope you will take time to look at the other items I have listed on Ebay this week. This Large Pitcher is Steuben #8010, a retired design only available on the secondary market. It appears on page 344 of the MJ Madigan Steuben reference book 2003 edition.
