Volume 4 Author/Artist Asa B. Strong. Date of Publication Published Paris 1883-86. Type of Prints Original hand colored botanical lithographs . Size of Image Quarto: 9 3/4" X 7 3/4". Condition Internally in overall very good to excellent condition. Publisher's red morocco, covers blocked in gilt with a ruled outer border surrounding a large gilt-blocked central design of rococco scrolling foliage surrounding the title, the flat spines expertly rebacked to style with the original spines laid down and blocked in gilt to an overall design incorporating the author, title, publisher and a maiden with a flower basket within scrolling foliage, gilt edges, worn, spines need restoration. Internally some of the text pages have become detached. There is some scattered foxing to xome of the plates, all of which can be matted away should you wish to break the volume up. The spine is defective and will need attention. Description We are pleased to offer a wonderful volume 4 (and the most difficult to acquire) of Asa B. Strong's The American Flora. As the title implies, the plants drawn and illustrated in this work are all native to the Americas. This is a notable work on American flora and an American color plate book of scientific interest for its descriptions of the medicinal value of many plants.
