It is well marked on the base with his signature and B.C. Tom one of a group of seasoned and venerated studio potters that make Denman Island, British Columbia their home, including Wayne Ngan and Gordon Hutchens, all working in the pottery tradition of Bernard Leach in the Japanese and Chinese pottery tradition. "Starting as painter I love the flexibility of clay, doing thrown and hand built pieces fired in a gas reduction kiln. A lot of my work epitomizes the beauty and drama of copper red glazes with black design. My work is strong, full of character, carefully formed and the ultimate in function."
