(Please see my other auctions for the remainder.) What a great way to celebrate Northern Art. This in my opinion is one of the Best Paintings produced by Downie so far. It is highly evocative and immediatly transports one back to the days of the Industrial North. This contemporary painting which is oil on stretched canvas measures 40cm x 30cm, and is in excellent condition with lovely vibrant colours. James Downie in my opinion clearly takes his inspiration from the Lowry / Yates School of Northern England Artists. Whilst naive at first glance, you quickly realise that there is considerable skill in his use of perspective, light and impasto to produce paintings that have an immediate appeal.In every painting there are a multitude of little vignettes to enjoy and excite the eye.
