GE 1939 H-500 "TURBINE" SUPER SLEEK DECO/MODERNE DESIGN WITH A RESTORED CHASSIS *** WARRANTY*** There are many vendors of antique radios on eBay. Why buy from Samham38? I have had a life-long interest in electronics. I built my first Heathkit in 1960, got my amateur radio license in 1978, bought my first antique radio in 1980, and started selling restored antique radios on eBay in 2006. Every radio I list benefits from these years of experience; that is why, unlike most antique radios sold on eBay, they carry a 90 day warranty (see below for details) and are fully suitable for daily listening -- not just infrequent, limited use. And, also unlike many radio vendors, I take the responsibility for getting your radio to you, undamaged and playing. In the unlikely event of damage, I see that you get a refund of your purchase price. The "Turbine" is perhaps the definitive example of the late Deco/Moderne style genre. The major design element is the overall shape of the case itself. The only non-functional design elements are the grooves and the raised "ledge" at the left side of the radio. The shape of the case is very similar to that of a large industrial turbine or generator, both of which were major products of General Electric in the 1930s, as well as today. This design was very popular, and "Turbines" were produced in a variety of different colors/materials and chassis options. The radio for sale in this auction is totally original, except for the electronic restoration performed on the under-chassis components (see details below) and the power cord and plug. The Bakelite cabinet is in very good condition, but does have an invisibly repaired crack on its left side. There is also a minuscule "flea bite" in the curved area to the right of the dial. It does not show on any photos, and is only discernible with very close examination. The case was repainted with quality high gloss automotive paint producing the beautiful finish visible in the photos. The On/Off/Volume knob is in perfect condition. The dial scale is in near-perfect condition, with no warping, and no sign of the oxidized areas often produced by the heat of the pilot light bulb. The dial is illuminated quite nicely by the pilot light and is easily read in almost any lighting condition. The compact 5-tube chassis received a full restoration to ensure long-term safe and reliable operation. It was first dusted and carefully cleaned. The chassis is corrosion-free. Then, ALL wax/paper electrolytic capacitors were replaced, even if they were still functional. The three section filter capacitor mounted on the top of the chassis was left in place, but disconnected from the active circuitry. The new filter capacitors are mounted under the chassis, as seen in the second picture below. All controls were cleaned and lubricated to operate smoothly . The speaker is in good condition, with no splits or tears. Following a full IF and RD alignment, the radio plays quite well, using the attached wire antenna. During daylight hours, local stations came in strong and clear. In the evening, distant stations all up and down the east coast, the mid-west, and from Canada also came in well. I guarantee proper operation for 90 days . I will repair any electrical faults free of charge for both parts and labor upon return, and will pay for return shipping to you. Evidence of abuse/physical damage will void this guarantee. Radios are typically shipped the first business day after payment is received . Items are wrapped in multiple layers of heavy bubble wrap, then placed in sturdy boxes. All spaces in the box are filled with tightly packed "peanuts" or other padding to assure that the wrapped radio can not bounce around if the package is jarred.
