An Exceptional Museum quality Antique Japanese Meiji Shibayama Walking Cane/Stick. Meiji, meaning "enlightened government," was chosen by Matushito, the 15-year-old child emperor who ruled from 1868-1912. The Meiji period is famous for an exceptional quality artwork. This Shibayama cane is certainly one of the best. The impressive superb quality carving large mushroom with snail on the top overlayed with beetle insects. Shibayama is done in exceptional detail with mother of pearl, abalone or tortoiseshell. Ebonise 35-1/2" shaft with metal tip. This antique museum quality cane is in excellent condition.
