- ANTIQUE RUSSIAN VASE Antique 19th century circa 1830 Russian porcelain vase from the period of Nicholas I (1825-55) executed in a distinctive Imperial manner in a neoclassic amphora shape luxuriously gilded in 24K gold. The front depicts the interior of a house with a finely painted scene of two men playing checkers watched by a standing woman holding a child, a border in tolled and burnished gold gilding, the obverse with a further burnished gild medallion with classical scrolling foliage on a blue ground flanked by elaborate gild handles in the Sturgeon form. A flared neck and lower body decorated with raised leaf motives supported on a fluted – circular foot with a flared rim coast with leaves on a square base. T is no manufacturer mark, which was worn by the washing and cleaning of the vase during its 170 year history,as the mark was painted on the surface of the glaze. The vase is made of three separate elements as follows: The main body and the base is made from two separate elements and fastened together by brass screws.CONDITION: Some wear and paint loss on the back of the vase ,crack in the right handle and two chips on the foot.Pictures of the damaged handle from both sides, and the two chips on the base are attached to the listing.
