Welcome and thank you for visiting Sweet Home Chicago Antiques! This is an absolutely stunning Victorian brides basket bowl which has a feature you rarely find on the market today and that is that the inside crimped ruffles have an orange peel or fish scale stippling. This was extremely difficult to capture with the camera, but it's just fabulous to see in person. I assume that the glassblower had a special crimping tool in order to create this stippling effect. It's quite charming.I would attribute this beauty to New England Glass. I'm leaning towards New England, because of the rich wild rose coloring at the rim, and also because the measurements seem to be in Imperial rather than Metric, though Thomas Webb has produced similar pieces. The foot of the bowl has the reddish-brown style/pattern number fired into the glaze, which we're always happy to find in Victorian pieces. I have included a close-up for you to see.The structural and decorative conditions are pristine. T are no chips, cracks, flakes or signs or repair. The enamel virtually shows no wear at all. The quality of the glass is among the best you'll find. You can hold this bowl to the light and see your hand behind both pieces cased together. When you tap this bowl gently with your fingertips, you hear the lovely tone which tells us that this is top-shelf glass. Overall, read more
