Long ago, a prominent DC Comics writer had the Paramount Flag Co. of San Francisco (historic creators of the Rainbow Flag) custom-make three accurate reproductions of flags from the Silver Age Superman universe, all as originally drawn by the legendary Curt Swan, Wayne Boring, and John Forte. The official Legion of Super-Heroes flag first appeared in the classic "Return of Lighting Lad" story (Adventure Comics #308, 1963). The flag of the planet Krypton was introduced in Action Comics #246 (1958). And when a power-mad Superman declared himself King of Earth in 1964's Action Comics 311 (under the influence of red kryptonite, of course), he ordered every nation to fly his personal banner. These are all 3x5 foot, high-quality, hand-stitched, two-sided outdoor flags, made to the same standards that Paramount used when manufacturing US and California flags for the government. The Legion and Superman flags are made of heavy, beautifully colored acrylic, while the Krypton flag is in lighter-weight but durable cotton. They've never been flown, except on an indoor wall for a couple of years, and even then saw hardly any sun. (There's some faint staining on the white header of the Superman flag, but not on the blue surface.) These would surely cost hundreds of dollars to make today, if anyone could even be found to do it.
