Svoboda Russia Emigré Anti-Soviet News Magazine 22/1954 Issue number 22, March 1954, of Svoboda , an anti-Soviet news magazine published in Munich, Germany, by the Cental Union of Political Refugees from the USSR. 22 x 30 cm (8.75 x 12 inches), 24 pages plus covers. Very good condition overall. The work of Russian emigrés, Svoboda was published in the American zone of occupation and certainly received some support from American intelligence, at least in its early years. It was published at least until 1963.Among the editorial staff was Grigorii Petrovich Klimov (1918-2007), a Russian army officer who defected in 1947 in Berlin, where he was part of the Soviet military administration. Klimov provided American intelligence with information on Soviet military structure and later claimed to have been involved in the OSS/CIA "Harvard Project," a psychological profiling operation that gets a fair amount of press in Russian conspiracy theory circles. In the last 60 years Klimov has earned minor notoriety for his theory that only "degenerates" (i.e., conflicted homosexuals) have the psychological drive to become world leaders.
