Attribution to Salem is based on a related Chippendale chair with characteristic curved rear leg, (see illustration from New England Furniture, p.413). The "owl" splat was commonly used throughout New England. A related example showing a similar open crest rail is illustrated in 300 Years of American Furniture, p. 300. Click for more photos and description. All offerings are in fine condition with no major repairs or replacements unless otherwise indicated in description. We offer free delivery within 60 miles of Providence on all purchases over $2,000 . Though specific delivery terms for all purchases outside of the Providence area are to be agreed upon after the auction, we offer and require the following necessities: i.
