This CASPER Syroco (Syracuse Ornamental Co., The Syracuse Ornamental Company, Syroco for short, was founded in Syracuse, New York in 1890 by a German immigrant named Adolph Holstein) is 4 3/4 inches tall, and is in good original condition. Bright spots are flash. There are a few rub marks in the paint on a few high spots.The base is marked CASPER on the front and KFS 1944 on the back. KFS = King Features Syndicate.Syroco developed a process to make products that looked like wood but were actually made with wood pulp and fillers. The wood pulp was mixed with flour as a binder along with other materials to make it stronger. The result was a composite that could be molded into desired shapes to simulate carved wood. They are cold painted.This figure was originally sold by the Pillsbury Mills Co, Mpls., Mn. for 25 cents plus one Farina baby food box top.Originally there were 12 characters in the grouping.Dagwood, Cookie, Alexander, Blondie, Popeye, Wimpy, Tim Tyler, Archie, Jiggs, Little King, Annie Rooney, Barney. CASPER was married to TOOTS, they had a baby son named BUTTERCUP and a dog named SPARE RIBS.
