Thanks for looking. Below is the history of the 310th Fighter Squadron. The 310 th Fighter Squadron's history dates back to 21 January 1942 when it was constituted as the 310 th Pursuit Squadron. It activated approximately 2 weeks later as a P-39 squadron at Harding Field , Louisiana . It was redesignated as the 310 th Fighter Squadron on 15 May 1942 and over the next 3 years the unit utilized the P-40 Warhawk and the P-47 Thunderbolt from bases throughout the eastern United States and the south pacific. The 310 th saw combat in World War II while participating in offensive air campaigns in Japan , New Guinea , Bismarck , Leyte , Luzon , and China in the Western Pacific. It was during this time the "TOPHATS" emblem was conceived and became the squadron's symbol. The unit received a distinguished unit citation as well as Philippine Presidential Unit Citation for operations conducted in the Philippine Islands.
