Pennyroyal Antiques is pleased to offer this beautiful West Taghkanic New York area; Taconic Basket constructed of white oak with a hickory rim and black ash double rim wrap. It is 9" diameter and 2 1/4" high. This is a rare find. One like it is shown in Robert Shaw's Book American Baskets . He describes it as "Used to collect offerings in a local church, this is the only known Taconic basket in this form." This one is handsome and nearly perfect, t is one small break that I mention for accuracy, it does not detract or weaken the basket. This is a rare basket and very desirable for the serious collector. To see other baskets like this one check Martha Wetherbee's Bushwhacker Baskets. This basket is signed with initials and the numbers #5682. the numbers appear in two places on the bottom. I cannot totally make out the initials but they appear to be CB or CP.
