Up for sale here is another ex local school Tascam 424 MkIII with PSU. This one has seen a fair bit of a life but records and plays back fine, though some of the outputs are a bit wobbly. Please read on for further details. THE GOOD STUFF ============== The unit plays back and records perfectly. All the inputs are working fine with the exception of the 1/4" jack for Input 4 which seemed a bit iffy - I wiggled the jack about and it seemed ok but this needs to be mentioned. There are no noticeable crackles when moving the pots or sliders with the exception of the monitor knob, but even this was only a slight crackle when rotating it. All the AUX sends work fine too. The sound on this unit is fantastic, just as a mixer. From tape the results are really, really nice. I imagine that using one of the modern cheap condensor mics that you can pick nowadays with this would yield some lovely warm results. THE NOT SO GOOD STUFF ===================== The unit was bought knowing there was a fault with the sub inputs ( as you can see written on the unit on the picture below ) but I couldn't get them to misbehave at all! I tried wiggling the jacks about in them and they didn't prove faulty at all. What did though was the direct tape outs, the line outs (and to an extent) the monitor outs.
