This listing is for a VERY rare U.S. MARITIME COMMISSION ships barometer from WWII. This is one of the best Bakelite CASE ones I have yet to see,(bakelite was used in WWII to save brass for critical applications, like bullet cases), AND IS ONE OF THE FEW TAYLORS I HAVE SEEN MADE FOR THE U.S. MARITIME COMMISSION,(only one other)!.It has the early white dial, that is half sweep,)from 27.3 to 31.3" of mercury). It was made in 1942,( about August) and was no doubt mounted on a VICTORY or LIBERTY class vessel, which were being produced by the American "captains" of industry to defeat the Axis powers. The U.S. Maritime Commission was specifically set up to man and equip these mass produced ships. Nice dial,(graduated in inches of mercury), and lense which is Lathe cut plexiglass,( or "perspex" as it was called at the time). 4 1/2" "white" dial, 6 1/2" o.a. diameter. Great match for your CHELSEA WWII MARITIME COMMISSION ships clock, as that was how they were"mated" onboard ships.Dial is "suntanned" from use, (no doubt on the bridge) of some U.S. Vessel, as these soldiered on for MANY years, and probably still do somewFully jewelled movement, which is a marvel of accuracy when calibrated by a skilled technician. This particular instrument is VERY accurate all the way across the "board" and will read TRUE barometric pressure, NOT the phony" read more
