This auction is a big one. This editing suite is a two owner. The first owner had it in a recording studio for a while. This reel to reel was used and maintained on a regular basis. The studio outgrew the unit and the equipment show in this auction. The entire group of items went into storage in a climate controlled room for many years until about 10 years ago. My friend (who I am listing this for) then bought this suite. It was not in perfect working order when he got it. Due to work related things, he did not have time to work with it. So it got stored again in a dry location in his house until a few weeks ago when he decided it all needed a new home. He is a repair tech(of over 40 years experience, he told me of quite a few of these reel to reels he used to service way back in the 70s and 80s. He said they all suffer from the same problems). He found the that the reel to reel didn't work properly and decided to totally go through all of it. What he found with the Reel to Reel itself was it needed all of the basic maintenance done to it. So he took it apart and removed and replace all of the grease, added new oil to parts which require oil. He cleaned all of the controls and switches. He cleaned all of the tape guides and heads. He cleaned the pinch roller (which is in really good condition for a reel to reel of this age. It is still really rubbery feeling. My friend suspects it had been changed at one point in its history). He replaced the capstan belt which was all pooky and flabby. Common in these units. He de-magnetized the heads. He then thoroughly tested it. Recording and playing back in all four channels. Listening for any anomalies or issues. This unit passed all of his very meticulous tests and he really believes in its performance. I heard it myself and I am very impressed with it's performance.
Concerning the service work done to the Mixer and Meter Bridge included in this auction. My friend said that he cleaned the switches in the Meter Bridge only. It didn't need anything else done to it. The mixer needed to have all of the controls and switches cleaned. They were quite sticky feeling. Basically all of the lubricant in the controls had dried making it hard to turn any of the knobs. The controls were also scratchy sounding before cleaning. So he cleaned them all and they work like new again. He also tested all of the mic inputs and they all tested out perfect. He then tested both the mixer and meter bridge together with the reel to reel all hooked up and it works great as it did back in the 1970s.
