The Girl of La Gloriaby Clara DriscollIllustrated by Hugh W. Ditzler1905Clara Driscoll (1881-1945) is best known in Texas as "the savior of the Alamo" because she used her own money to restore and preserve the historic mission and battle site. But before all that, Driscoll was an ambitious, well-educated young woman with dreams of becoming a famous author. This is her first and only published novel. The Girls of La Gloria was pubished in 1905 by G.P. Putnam's Sons, New York and London, The knickerbocher Press. Clara Driscoll was born in Texas and her heart and fortune remained here although at various parts of her life she lived in Europe, New York and other places. Her home in Austin, Laguna Gloria, is now an art museum. This is a rare copy of her first book. I can only find one other on the internet and it is priced at $900. This copy is in very good old condition -- some surface dirt and page yellowing but the binding generally is tight, there are no marks inside and the illustrations are bright. This is a piece of Texas history!Shipping includes insurance and we always pack very carefully so buy with confidence.
