Up for auction is Texas Civil War Buttons. Albert's Military button book lists these identical appearing buttons as: TX 23 B under the paragraph heading: "Buttons of The State of Texas "---see the photo! Albert's calls it a "Confederate local" RV 50 "Blank ". McQuinn and Bazelon's book show the identical back mark ("Superior Quality" ) in their book---see photo! I had a great deal of difficulty in getting good pictures of the front and backs of these small buttons. I am going to use the the best photo I obtained from the 13 buttons I acquired at this estate sale-- -It will only show a frontal shot! The photos from the books show the exact pictures of the front and back of these buttons. I asked to talk to the g-g-granddaughter of the original owner to quiz her before I bought the buttons---but I was told she lived out of state. I went back home an consulted my books before I bought these old buttons--- I wasn't happy to pay what I paid but I was totally unsuccessful in getting them to come off the price! But I was concerned someone else would buy them while I was haggling! I am going to sell these one at a time to give as many collectors as I can a chance to own one. I tried to keep these buttons separate so the button you see is the button you get--- but I did not get a good photo of each---front or back. I will number each auction 1 to 13 ---Numbers 4, 5 & 13 have the most gilt---if that is important to you (it isn't to me) . Several buttons have very slightly bent shanks. So the photo you see may not be the button you ge t---But all the buttons are excellent, "non-dug" specimens! All the buttons have their shanks and two or three have quite a bit of gilt remaining (cuff buttons?). Most have very little gilt and were likely on the front of uniform and had to been used many, many times to wear off so much gilt. Some being nearly void of gilt which makes me think this is not a Confederate veteran garment that was used only once or twice per year (it was a very rare veteran that even a uniform, especially, with Texas Buttons) because t is just too much gilt missing for that to be the case---IMHO!. Long-time relic dealer, Dale Anderson told me years ago: "You don't find Texas buttons, even in Texas !' I had called him to tell of our success in finding multiple Republic of Texas buttons at old Fort Graham . Texas is the most likely place to find exceeding rare Texas buttons---as I had just proved!!! S&H will be $6.00 via USPS---Multiple wins will ship for same cost--- if you want insurance calculate it from the USPS rate sheet below and add to the S&H! USPS should be privatized!!! For some small packages they almost doubled the cost several weeks ago!!! LOOK AT MY OTHER ITEMS: I will be putting up a number of pre-civil war (an 1820 " US " butto n; several "D" dragoon buttons and several early "eagle cuff buttons " with left-sided shields ) and Civil War buttons---I personally dug all these 20 years ago. I wrote two articles for TREASURE MAGAZINE about some of these finds in the late 1980s. I will be putting up more Fort Graham buttons that have back marks you can't find in any of the button books I have! And a little bit of gold! And much more!
