State of Texas land grant, "In the Name of the State of Texas." No. 324, Vol. 25, dated 10 January 1860 . Original grant signed by Governor SAM HOUSTON. Measures approximately 14.75 x 12.5". Embossed seals of the State of Texas, McCulloch Co., and the General Land Office. Buff parchment-like paper, folded. Also signed by the Commissioner of the General Land Office. Back has stamped and handwritten certificate of authentication and county filing notations.Land was granted to Ernst Giescke - 320 acres in McCulloch Co. on the San Saba River - Survey No. 203, District 5 by virtue of Cert. No. 97 issued by P. Portis, commissioner of Fisher & Miller's Colony, 14 May 1850, etc. - with the usual survey coordinates. This colony was an important German-American settlement. McCulloch Co. had not long before been established out of Bexar. CONDITION: Good. Wear and browning at folds. Pencil notation in top margin. Bleed-through of ink, back to front, front to back, including on signature.
