This particular item is a copy of The Congressional Globe of the 31st Congress, published in 1850. It was owned and signed by Pennsylvania Representative Th. Stevens. It measures 9.5" x 12" and contains 818 pages. His signature appears on several pages throughout, and the listing in the book of the various members of Congress lists him as a Representative from Pennsylvania. Signed as T. M. Stevens, New Haven, Connecticut in several places as well. What's interesting about the book is it details many of the discussions that took place on the House floor among members such as Sherman and Atchison and others on the subject of Slavery at the time of the book's publishing in 1850. Contains the "Speeches and Important State Papers" of the 31st Congress of the United States and its members.
