Very detailed pewter lid with a thumblift. Very nice piece. Marked "TW" (Theodor Wieseler) on the bottom and shank. No damage or wear. Great condition. Theodor Wieseler was to Nuremberg what Josef Mayer was to Munich, they both owned "Einrichtungs Magazinen" or home furnishing warehouses. They provided everything for the home including beer steins and part of the business was a "Bierkrugfabrik" with "Zinngiesserei" and "Malerei," or finishing shop with pewter and paint shops. In 1901, Theodor Wieseler began an expansion of his business outside of Nuremberg. The company is still in business today, as one of the oldest, and largest, wholesale co-ops in Germany. Today, the company is headquartered in Essen, Germany and is called "Die Nürnberger Bund Produktionsverbindungshandels GmbH." In 1870, George Nicholas Saegmuller arrived in the United States from Bavaria, via England. Shortly after arriving in Washington he met his bride and moved onto his wife’s family property of Reserve Hill, he eventually expanded the property to include approximately 240 acres by 1911.
