Click for full size #1 Click for full size #2 First American School for the Deaf was Founded in 1817 in Hartford Connecticut by TH Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc. James H. Wells was on the Supporter and on the Board of the Hartford Asylum (w the deaf were taught prior to the ASD). Hand Written Note declining a dinner invitation with James H Wells, signed TH Gallaudet 1850, Founder of first American School for the Deaf. This is one of 3 of these dinner notes signed by Thomas Gallaudet, about one year before his death in September 1851. I also have a letter signed by Laurent Clerc 1838 to James H. Wells.
