This is a pair of rush seat, tiger maple side chairs dating from ca 1830. The chairs have bold tiger maple crest rails, bold tiger maple front rungs and bold tiger maple center slats. Both chairs have the original painted rush seats, a technique that was used in the early 19th century to protect the rush. The seat height is 17" and the overall chair height is about 32".
