Up for auction is a tin friction 1950's Mercedes Space Robot Patrol Car made by Asahi/Cragstan of Japan. The car measures 8 1/4 inches or 21 centimeters long. The majority of the car and robot driver is original; there are a couple of things that were restored or replaced. The robot driver is all original except for his earpieces and his little wire top. Also, part of the gun on the hood of the car has been repainted. The top half of the gun has been carefully redone to match the existing pattern... Everything else is completely original... the paint on the car, the robot (excepting the wire on the ears and head), the windshield and its celluloid, the interior, the chrome trim, the tires, base and hubcaps, the friction mechanism, you name it, all original. It isn't perfect but it is very nice. The last photo is shown for reference only, it is from page 33 of the terrific book Vintage Toys Robots and Space Toys. Thanks for looking!!!!
