Measuring about 1-3/4" x 2-1/2", this lightly tinted black and white ambrotype photo shows a serious looking young man sporting a plaid bow tie. I have no idea who he is, but he was found near Newport, Maine. He is matted and framed behind glass in a decoratively pressed brass preserver inside an equally decorative case.I have removed it from the case and taken it apart enough to know that it has the four layers - the decorative fold-back preserver; a decorative oval Dean & Emerson matt; the sheet of glass that contains the image; and sheet of backing tin that painted black and curled in at the side edges to prevent direct contact with the glass.The case still has a working clasp but the cloth hinge has largely disintegrated, and it shows typical signs of wear at the corners, edges and the high points of the relief work. Also, the inside liner on the side opposite the photo is missing.International Buyers - Please Note:Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost.
