A small 3 3/4" tall ( to top of stopper ) beautiful DEEP PURPLE colored square-shaped antique RIEGER & CO perfume bottle. Bottle is EM BOSSED , comes with FULL LABEL , still has the original ground GLASS STOPPER clos ure. This is a very early hand Blown Into Mold bottle (BIM) with a tooled top, dating back well over 100 years old.Bottle embossed : " W R ", with a FULL spectrum of embossed designs and patterns, like a coat of arms. Obviously the W R stands for = W RIEGER , the name that is likewise on the label.Condition : Bottle is in PRISTINE SPARKLING CLEAN condition, NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc. The base of the stopper is ground down which is how they manufactured them, it is NOT damage and the stopper too is in PRISTINE CLEAN condition. PLEASE see pictures for better idea of bottle's condition.Age : An early hand-blown bottle (Blown-In-Mold = BIM) with a tooled-top, ca. late 1800's .Shipping : All DOMESTIC shipping charges INCLUDE insurance. This is especially important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are rough estimates.A great looking little bottle, I believe that this Rieger is somehow tied to the Rieger that was a SAN FRANCISCO, CAL. perfumer, Paul Rieger. There are many P. Rieger bottles out there, both fancy perfume bottles such as this but also Jamaica Ginger bottles as well, which was a patent medicine. Yet again, somehow I think these RIEGERS are all tied in together as family. Then there is the beautiful purple color ... you hear about old glass turning purple in the sunlight ... The beautiful purple amethyst color of this bottle is the result of being made with manganese in the glass, a mineral that was pulverized and added to vats of molten liquid glass that acted as a decolorizing agent to turn the naturally aqua-tinted glass into a pure crystal clear colorless glass. Then later, exposure to ultraviolet rays of the sun or other sources of UV rays, triggers a chemical reaction and the manganese oxidizes and turns a wonderful amethyst color. With few exceptions, only glass made before 1914 will turn purple. Not only does this deep purple/amethyst color make this a great looking bottle, but it also authenticates it as being truly antique! But it's not just that. This really has to be the ultimate antique perfume bottles as it has all of the right stuff.
