Hi, I have an amazing Toltec rattle incense burner for auction at no reserve. This incredible artifact was made by the Toltec Culture of Hidalgo State in Mexico. This artifact was found near the ruins of Tula. This great pottery piece has a Toltec person on the front of it with one hand up on the opening of the incense burner, and the other at its side. The figure has a headdress with a lizard on top of it, ear spools, bracelets, and a necklace. The face of the figure is wrinkled, representing the fire god. There are slots in the chamber for better air flow for the burning of the incense. The back of this great artifact tapers back to the end. There is a snake figure on this part, which is where the rattle is. There is one of the adornos on the back that has been lost to time and there are a couple of very small minor chips. This doesn't take away from this being an amazing artifact that displays very, very nicely. I wish I could have added another dozen pictures, as twelve are hardly enough for a quality artifact like this. I purchased this over a dozen years ago from the collection of Jerry Fortner in Gardendale, AL. This fantastic artifact dates to 900-1150AD. Tula was burned and vacated around 1179AD. There are thousands of artifact for sale on eBay, but it is very rare to see any actual Toltec artifacts ever listed. Especially read more
