Very Collectible, Traditional Navajo Indian Wedding Vase Pottery with 2 Cliff Dwellings/Pueblo's Navajo Indian potter Elsie Bigman and her family have been making pottery for generations. They live in the heart of the Navajo Reservation in eastern Arizona. As others have distanced themselves from the traditional process of making pottery, the Bigman's continue to produce pottery in this way. THE PROCESS The pottery is 100% hand coiled and thrown. It is then fired in an outdoor pit with the heat generated from cow, sheep and other manures. After the firing process is complete, the pottery is coated with a near boiling pine pitch. The Bigman's and inlaw Louise Goodman have collaborated with each other for years producing this highly collectible and sought after pottery. The Indian museum at the Smithsonian Institute displays some of this families work. This MEDIUM sized "Wedding Vase" pot measures approximately 10 1/2 inches high, 5 3/4 inches wide and has a circumference of approximately 17 1/2 inches.
