WESTERN U.S. GOLDSHASTA-TRINITY ALPS CALIFORNIA NATURAL GOLD NUGGET F rom the Trinity River, California comes this placer gold nugget weighing 3 grains (Troy) total. Great character, front and back. Gold dredged from the main branch of the Trinity River (w this comes from) averages around 870 fine (87% pure). This nugget is real yellow and very rugged for river gold. W ith placer, you don't just hike down the canyon and pan out an ounce or two. A little prospecting experience will clue you in. You'll quite possibly have to work harder than you ever worked before. If a guy had X-ray vision and could see beneath the boulders, sand, gravel, trees, and dirt, considerable work would still be needed to reach and mine the gold, but identifying w the gold's at is about 95% of the problem. Another thing to consider is that every drainage (creek, river, or drywash) possesses it's own special traits. Placer-mining is a jig-saw puzzle on which topography represents the pieces and it's your job to figure out how they fit together. I tried running 99 cent auctions before with no reserve. The way it panned out, I might as well have thrown my money away in Vegas. Now, I start my auctions at a reasonable price and hope for the best.
