Tron Tron, a cult classic , is one the most under rated movies ever made. This movie was one of the first to use computer animation. Tron was the FIRST movie to use computer animation with competence. The CG in Tron is quite amazing given the technology of the early 80's. Tron even looks pretty damn good almost 25 years later. Special effects aside, Tron is a morality play about freedom and the duty to fight for it. Kevin Flynn is transported inside a computer by the evil sentient MCP ( Master Control Program ). On the other side MCP rules the cyber world with an iron first, forcing programs to fight in gladiatorial bouts to the 'death' . Flynn teams up with Tron , a paladin security program intent on toppling MCP's despotic rule, giving all programs the freedom to operate properly on their terms. This was 1982 , Tron , by Bally Midway, the arcade game was released simultaneously with the Walt Disney film . Tron had four games in one, all of which featured highlights from the movie (with the exception of the bugs). The games were: Light Cycles , Tanks , Grid Bugs, and showdown with MCP . The light cycles game pitted you against other cycles in a race to destroy each other. Each light cycle leaves a colored line that will destroy the cycle should it collide with it. You must outmaneuver the enemy and make them crash into the walls or the lines left behind the cycle. In Tanks , you moves through a maze; you must destroy all enemies, whether they be tanks or recognizers. Then t are the Grid Bugs . You must shoot your way through the bugs and make your way out to the I/O Tower. Now comes the showdown with the MCP cone. You have to destroy the colored tiles to get inside the cone. Doing so clears the level, and restarts the game at a higher difficulty. The cabinet of Tron is of unique design and is black lit in places to reproduce the glowing effect of much of the movie. The control has a 'flight stick' style joystick complete with trigger. T is also a whirlygig that controls angle of fire on certain levels. The side art shows characters from the movie like Tron , Flynn , and Zark , MCP's Hand and Voice. Overall, Tron the arcade game is just as great as the movie that inspired it.
