Magnetite finds in the Tucson Mountains are rounded, pitted, shaped like, and often mistaken for meteorites. This large specimen is a rare find. Measuring approximately 3" x 4.75" x 5.75" and weighing 2,690 grams ( 5.9 pounds ) it is a great specimen for your collection. Magnetite (Fe3O4) is black in color with a metallic luster, 5 times heaver than water and usually ferromagnetic. However, this Tucson Mountains magnetite exhibits strong paramagnetic behavior.
