Tupolev Tu-144LL Supersonic Flying Laboratory - NASA teamed with American and Russian aerospace industry - modified Tupolev Tu-144D (Number 77114) with alternative Nose Cones- used between 1995 and 1999 at the Zhukovsky Air Development Centre, Moscow - Brand New 95% Assembled Rare Model Kit - Very Highly Detailed and Pre-painted - TAKARA Wings of the World 1/700th scale - VOLUME 2 - Model Number 8 in the Series - Originally imported from Japan in 2005 (Now Discontinued) - Part Assembled and Pre-Painted 1:700 Scale Model Kit - Supplied with Display Stand, Original Box, very carefully packed for transportation with Japanese Information Sheet. Model Details This is a pre-painted and partially pre-assembled very highly detailed model of the Tupolev Tu-144LL Supersonic Civil Transport Flying Laboratory (a modified version of the Tu-144D - number 77114) . The model is pre-painted in the original numbered 77114 livery and has optional nose cones as used by the NASA, American and Russian aerospace industry teams. This is a fantastic model in accurate 1:700 scale that sits suspended on a black plastic display stand (in a horizontal position). These particular 1:700 scale models are very accurately moulded and detailed in dense plastic resin and painted with an incredible amount of fine detail (including accurate markings) - no transfers are required. MINOR ASSEMBLY REQUIRED The model is supplied with a total of 3 extra small silver painted pieces (on sprue) of under-carriage wheel units, that can be clipped or glued in place to complete the model. There are also two optional (and removeable) nose cones that can be fitted to the aircraft (clip-fit). Some minor modelling skills are required (no painting, just cutting and a little glue) in order to install. These optional parts come on a separate sprue (all pre-painted) and correctly moulded to fit perfectly. SUPPLIED BOXED AND COMPLETELY NEW The model is brand new and supplied in plastic blister packaging. An original opened box and associated Japanese information poster are supplied. Takara Wings of the World Series Details This is a model from a collection of 15 (including three secret models) available from the Takara Wings of the World - Series 2 (released in 2005). As is usual, this volume of models had a limited production run, and are now discontinued. This model is one from a series of high quality 1/700 true to scale aircraft from Takara. Each model is extremely detailed and finished to a very high standard. Each aircraft comes with a display stand. There are three rare (secret) models in this collection; there are two Nakajima G10N Fugakus, and a Boeing 747 Space Shuttle Transporter. BRIEF AVIATION HISTORY NASA teamed with American and Russian aerospace industries for an extended period in a joint international research program featuring the Russian-built Tu-144LL supersonic aircraft. The object of the program was to develop technologies for a proposed future second-generation supersonic airliner to be developed in the 21st Century. The aircraft's initial flight phase began in June 1996 and concluded in February 1998 after 19 research flights. A shorter follow-on program involving seven flights began in September 1998 and concluded in April 1999. All flights were conducted in Russia from Tupolev's facility at the Zhukovsky Air Development Centre near Moscow. The centerpiece of the research program was the Tu 144LL, a first-generation Russian supersonic jetliner that was modified by its developer/builder, Tupolev ANTK into a flying laboratory for supersonic research. Using the Tu-144LL to conduct flight research experiments, researchers compared full-scale supersonic aircraft flight data with results from models in wind tunnels, computer-aided techniques, and other flight tests.
