He flew his first mission on February 14, 1944 with the 302nd Fighter Squadron, 332nd Fighter Group in Italy. He shot down an FW-190 on August 24, 1944 during an escort mission while flying his fateful mount a P-51C Mustang named “Kitten”. Col Charles E. McGee enjoyed a long successful US Air Force career with over 30 years service.
