The Paper Conservator was the annual journal of the UK-based Institute for Paper Conservation, before the organization merged with ICON in 2005. These early issues from 1976-1988 are difficult to obtain and offer a great deal of information on handmade paper. Among the articles, for example, volume 1 covers leaf casting and manual pulp application, volume 2 introduces the simple chemistry of bleaching, volume 3 identifies oriental papermaking fibres, volume 4 provides a lively look at Spanish papermaking, volume 5/6 warns of health hazards, volume 7 contains beautiful depictions of early papermaking on glass, volume 8 identifies cotton fibres and introduces mitnan, volume 9 covers washi, volume 10 discusses large artworks on paper, volume 11 explores tapa and papyrus, volume 12 explains deacidification and foxing. This lot was generously d onated by Jim Reeder of Bookmakers. See the complete table of contents for each issue at /auction
