These superb examples of Armenian Lace (one of the oldest forms of knotted needle lace) are an exquisite array of geometric designs embellished with tiny picoted rosettes in the center. The knotted net mesh is finely executed with knots so tiny they are nearly invisible without a magnifier. The doilies are made of very fine, unbleached, ecru colored cotton thread giving the lace a linen-like appearance. The photo shows an inconsistency due to shadows. Examine the close-up photo for color consistency. Although Armenian Lace utilizes an ancient technique, fine cotton thread for lace-making was not manufactured until 1803 and rarely utilized until 1833. It is most likely that these doilies were made in the 1900's. They are in excellent condition. They have no tears or breaks in the thread. Diameter: 7.5 inches
