Desoto County (LST - 1171)Contains: Ship's Log, Ship's History, Crew's names/pictures & pictures of the Mediterranean deployment. "USS Raleigh [LDP-1], the world's first amphibious transport dock, was named in honor of Sir Walter, the famed explorer & the city of Raleigh, NC. Built in New York Naval Shipyard, it was christened on 17 Mar, 1962. Overall length of 521 feet & a beam of 100 feet.
